Drawing, Tapestry Design: Apollo in his Chariot Led by Aurora, 1760–89, Guido Reni, 1760–89

Design is based on guido reni's "aurora," palazzo rospigliosi, rome. The clouds rise from the sea and carry apollo in his chariot. He is accompanied by the hours; the group is preceded by aurora and two genii holding a jar and flowers. In the lower right, neptune stands onshore; he holds the reigns of his horse and his trident. Date: 1760–89. Dimensions: 27.5 x 48.3 cm (10 13/16 x 19 in.). Medium: brush and black ink, gray wash, laid paper, pen and black ink, pen and brush.
