Auguste countess of stolberg (1753-1835), married to andreas peter count bernstorff since 1783. Oil painting by jens juel. This sister of the counts of stolberg, who were friends of goethe, turned to the poet, moved by "werther", who, without them ever seeing each other, wrote her the most revealing letters to his inner life (until 1782).
