A two-member delegation from the military geographical institute (vzú) in prague - bubenč began a visit to the reich surveying office (reichsamt für landesaufnahme (rfl)) on march 14, 1939 as a delegation of an independent state, but returned to the protectorate of bohemia and moravia on march 18, 1939. The then commander of the vzú, colonel of the geographical service phdr. Jiří čermák (* 1884 - ???) sent his deputy colonel josef churavý (* 1894 - 1942) on this business trip accompanied by one more person. Colonel josef churavý sent a postcard to his son from this trip. The surviving postcard bears the postmark of the berlin post office dated march 16, 1939. In the text part of the postcard, its writer - colonel josef churavý - stated the date march 15, 1939. He addressed the postcard to his elder son václav churavý (* 1923 - 2001) at the apartment at the address: prague xi, luxemburská 35, čechy. In the text, he states: "dear veník, i remember all of you today. I will try to go home tomorrow, even though the borders are closed. Your dad kisses you, mom and mila. " (míla means his younger son miloslav churavý (* 1926 - 2014). )
on the postcard is the main facade of the orangery (sometimes also called the new orangery - neue orangerie). It is located in the immediate vicinity of the extensive sanssouci park, in which the rococo sanssouci castle is located. (the castle was built as the summer residence of frederick ii the great in 1745–1747. ) the site is located in potsdam - the capital of the federal republic of brandenburg in germany (about 26 kilometers southwest of the center of berlin at its border). As can be seen from the postcard, in 1939 there was an equestrian statue of bedrich the great in the place of the orangery. Date: 15 March 1939.
