Germain boffrand was a highly influential french architect of the 18th century. He was responsible for numerous buildings and commissions in paris, lorraine and modern day germany. Many of these are shown in his monumental treatise "livre d'architecture" which helped disseminate the french neoclassical louis xv style throughout europe. The high quality engravings are preceded by a discussion of the definition of "good taste" in the arts. This is then supported by the examples boffrand illustrates through image and text. Date: 1745.
