1793 Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch nach Heinrich Anton Dähling, Kupferstich Johann Heinrich Justus Köppen, Verlag Carl Ernst Bohn, Kiel, Heinrich Anton Dähling
Bust with a profile to the left of the philologist and teacher johann heinrich justus köppen. The portrait in front of a cross-hatching in the background is in an oval frame that borders a patterned cross-hatching rectangle. A panel below the oval contains the three-line caption "ioh. Heinrich iust köppen born 1755. Died 1791". The creator of the copperplate engraving/etching is the engraver johann christian gottfried fritzsch, who engraved the portrait after the death of the sitter in 1793 based on a model by the painter heinrich anton dähling that was also created posthumously. This raises the question of whether the painter recreated the portrait from personal memories of the deceased or from a portrait that had already been created during köppen's lifetime (1755–1791). The publisher of the portrait, which was reproduced in 1793 as a frontispiece for the allgemeine deutsche bibliothek, volume 115, first edition, was carl ernst bohn, who worked in kiel. The engraving with the sheet dimensions 188 x 113 mm (plate dimensions 157 x 103 mm; image dimensions: 149 x 95 mm) - shown here as a detail - can be found in the portrait collection of the herzog-august-bibliothek in wölfenbüttel. Date: 1793.
