the title is the formula that precedes a jury's declaration. Progress of a trial in which the accused is liberty, a young woman, to the right of the composition, perched on a platform and guarded by schonen and lobau. The evidence, placed on a table in the center, consists of a phrygian cap with a tricolor cockade, a rifle, a copy of the "marseillaise" and three paving stones from the barricades of "juillet" 1830. The group of jurors on the left consists of soult, talleyrand, baron louis, montalivet, d'argout and louis-philippe standing, hiding his face behind the sheet he is reading (certainly the sentence constituting the title of the pl. ). The assembly of judges, composed of persil standing pronouncing the sentence, dupin with the magistrate's hat, thiers writing with a pen (and an unidentified character located to persil's left), is chaired by barthe, in the center. Madier de montjau, in the background, as a bailiff, turns towards the viewer. In the foreground, an “unworthy poet” (in explanation) marked on the forehead (“ven //du”) (is this barthélemy, director of the newspaper némésis?) guizot crossing his fingers (?), several personifications of newspapers favorable to the government: le figaro “ex-bousingot”, du “monit […] [moniteur]”, du “jounal [journal] [des] deba[…] [debates]” and “constitution […] [constitutional]”. La fayette, liberty's lawyer, supports her by holding her hand. He has on his table the program of the town hall (“hotel // program”). The back wall is decorated with a fleur-de-lis, the central element of which is replaced by a pear. There is also a figure attached to a post, reminiscent of the scourged christ. It is “one // republican”. Person / character represented:
