jules adler, also called "the painter of the humble", is known for his naturalistic representations of the working world and its poverty. This demonstration marks the end of a major strike movement that began in may 1899 in the schneider factories in le creusot. The demands included recognition of the cgt union, freedom of conscience and the suppression of the secret police. The artist having personally attended this parade, all the constituent elements of the painting are borrowed from reality: the landscape marked on the right by the trestles of the saint-pierre and saint-paul mines, the numerous demonstrators, the tricolor flags and the peaceful branches as well as the presence of women and children carrying drums. In this work, a true icon of the working world, adler paints the condition of workers as a model of fraternity despite the harshness of the profession and chooses in particular to highlight, in the foreground, the fraternally clasped hands. “pau human capital”. Object Type: painting. Date: 1899. Dimensions: height: 302 cm (118.8 in) ; width: 231 cm (90.9 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pau. Jules Adler, La Grève au Creusot, 1899
