The person portrayed is sitting with a plan of a gallery in the louvre, the buildings of which he planned to use for a 'museum' after the royal family no longer used this for housing or anything else. Here the crown's art treasures were to be collected, and a 'galerie des grands hommes' was to be set up. Only the french republic had to really realize his thoughts. Around the neck angiviller wears ss. Cross of the order of maurice & lazare, on the coat the cross of the order of saint-louis. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: between 1780 and 1789.
