Interesting fresco showing the aquarium still under construction and several characters sitting around a table; you can recognize them (from left to right): 1) en:anton dohrn (seated), founder of the aquarium of naples. 2) en:nikolaus kleinenberg (standing), german zoologist of baltic origins, dohrn's assistant at the stazione zoologica of naples: of a cold and haughty character, due to his indolence in 1875 the friendship and collaboration with dohrn ended, even though he respected him from a scientific point of view; however, thanks to the intermediation of dohrn himself, kleinenberg was called to the chair of zoology in messina in 1879; he was a friend of von marées; he died in 1897. 3) en:charles grant (seated in the centre), english writer, dearest friend of dohrn: in jena he had been the teacher of von marées and hildebrand; he had no scientific knowledge but in naples (where he remained for about ten years) he was available for the most varied tasks and as an intermediary in the solutions of the infinite problems that gradually arose; died in graz in 1887; among his modest literary production there is a "stories of naples and the camorra". 4) the same artist hans von marées (in the corner); 5) en:adolf von hildebrand (on the right, in profile), artist, sculptor and painter, companion and collaborator of marées. The women are a landlady and an old fishwife.
