Amphitrite, Antonin Mercié, between 1889 and 1900

The statuette of this goddess of the sea was designed by the sculptor marius-jean-antonin mercié to be cast in silver as the centerpiece for a table of the duke of santonia in 1878. Subsequently, christolf et cie. , a silver company, had several ivory statuettes carved by e. P. Scalliet (1846-1911) based on mercié's model. This example was exhibited at the exposition universelle held in paris in 1900. Date: between 1889 and 1900. Place of creation: France. Dimensions: 68.7 cm (27 in). Medium: gold, ivory, silver-gilt.
