Paul-François-Jean-Nicolas, Viscount Barras (1755-1829)

Barras participated in the overthrow of maximilien robespierre, who had instituted the reign of terror (september 1793-july 1794), the most brutal phase if the french revolution in which many thousands of people were executed. It was barras, in 1795, who ordered general bonaparte to disperse a crowd of counterrevolutionaries in paris with cannon fire. Date: 19th century. Place of creation: Paris, France.
