iconographic description:
genre scene. Exterior scene: paris, "les halles", "rue / de la / froma-/ gerie" architectures. Characters: on the right, a fish seller accompanies a woman carrying a basket (oyster seller). The latter buys a ticket from a woman. On his table are cards, dice and a lottery game. A merchant, surrounded by bags of oysters, is busy opening a shellfish. A water carrier enters the “store / of / wine” whose facade is decorated with bottles. It says “wines / from / bordeaux”. Next to it is a “spicer[ie]”. A crowd of merchants has gathered on the left. A woman, carrying a basket on her back, pays a kneeling vegetable seller. Next to it, a bourgeois examines the asparagus of a merchant who is holding a scale. He is accompanied by his dog who carries a bundle in his mouth. A coal carrier is heavily loaded. Another man and a chimney sweep buy goods. Two men and a woman got into a cart. A man carries an enormous bag marked “moulin / mont-mag[. . . ] / 1814”. In the distance, we can see two market halls and the fountain of the innocents. People.
