The Hundred Guilder Print, Rembrandt, 1649

The picture depicts four passages from matthew 19: the healing of the sick (19:2), the discussion with the scribes (19:3-12), the blessing of the children ('leave the children alone. . . ') (19:13-15) and the story of the rich young man (19:16-22). In the right background, rembrandt, with the camel walking through the gate, refers to the following line from matthew 19, in which he tells his audience: "[. . ] it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of god" (19: 22). Date: 1649. Place of creation: Amsterdam. Dimensions: height: 28 cm (11 in); width: 39.5 cm (15.5 in). Medium: etching print on paper.
