Venetian history – 127: 1669 – the death of caterino cornaro. The last heroes of an absurd war
“but the greatest loss our men suffered was that of the brave caterino cornaro, general administrator. Tireless in every work, he had begun to defend the fort of santo andrea. . When, on may 13, 1669, he found himself in a gallery of the captured fort, among many officers, fervently arranging according to his custom some works useful for the defense, a bomb fell among them, breaking, wounding him so badly in the side that he immediately fell into the arms of those around him and soon passed on to a better life".
