Stender held an influential position in lübeck's trades and crafts community and enjoyed great respect for his selfless work in the service of the common good. From 1899 to 1911 he was a member of the town council and was also a member of the town committee on several occasions. Here he was a keen interest as an expert advisor - primarily on trade issues - and as an active collaborator. For 25 years he was the master of the building trades guild, and for a long time he was also chairman of the employers' association for the building trade, which made him an honorary member when he left. He was also chairman of the trades association and a board member of the house and property association. He devoted himself to housing and property care, was a member of the housing maintenance authority and an assessor of the housing office. For decades he carried out the business of a property appraiser for the municipal and suburban fire insurance company. Date: before 7 April 1922.
