British actress and member of the famous kemble theatrical family. Daughter of actor charles kemble, niece of actress sarah siddons and actor john philip kemble, and sister of opera singer adelaide kemble. Made her debut in 1829 as juliet. Known for her roles as portia, beatrice, and lady teazle. Most famous for her role as julia in "the hunchback" a part that playwright sheridan knowles wrote specifically for her. Later became an activist against slavery. Also wrote several plays, poems, travel books, and memoirs of her life and career.
