jealousy is symbolised by the yellow of the daffodils at the front of this scene. In the background is a heart pierced by an arrow fired by the god of love, cupid, dressed in medieval robes. A. F. A. Sandys was a friend of dante gabriel rossetti, and was a member of the pre-raphaelite circle of artists. His work concentrated on female heads in a style influenced by rossetti and edward burne-jones. His pictures were always extremely detailed, and often included flowers.
