Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel gjøngehøvdingen by carit etlar which takes place during the dano-swedish war in 1657-1658. Ib abelsøn, svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, the vassal tyge høeg and the merchant espen naas. Svend poulsen wants to borrow a horse from tyge høeg, saying that he and ib abelsøn are transporting wine for the swedes. But espen naas knows that they really are transport money for the danish king and plots to get the money. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679) was a real person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fiction as there are no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
