Description of auberchicourt; cartulary of croy (albums de croÿ), village seen from the south-east, with road coming from bouchain and junction (on the right) towards chemin de denain. The houses are densely grouped around the church built of stone and covered with slates; near the church, the artist has depicted a tower built of the same materials, square and covered with a short spire: it is probably a part of the castle (cited from the 12th century, having belonged to the great important families (lallaing, lannoy, sainte-aldegonde de noircarmes). The 2 tiled buildings could be an outbuilding. The tiled building decorated with a fireplace could be the village oven. The 2 large constructions united by a high turret (the 3 being covered with tiles) could perhaps represent the aldermen's house and the market hall. Industrialization and wars will completely change the regional landscape. The church was first rebuilt after 1647 and was rebuilt again in 1874.
