New York Merchants' Exchange, published 1828

Caption reads: "exchange. Engraved for the picture of new york and stranger's guide published by a. T. Goodrich. " credit line reads: "drawn by a. J. Davis. M. E. Thompson arct. Engraved by j. Yeager. " text on p. 206f. Foundation stone laid april, 1825. Opened may, 1827. Wall street front was 114 feet, and the depth, running through to garden street (now exchange place), was 150 feet. U. S. Post office located in basement. Marble facade. Cupola was 24 feet in diameter. "from the most elevated part of the dome, the eye commands an uncommonly fine and extensive view of the entire city…. The vestibule in the first floor…leads into the principal room, or merchant's exchange, which…is of an oval form, 85 feet long, 55 feet wide, and 45 feet high…. ". Date: published 1828.
