Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel gjøngehøvdingen by carit etlar which takes place during and after the dano-swedish war in 1657-58. Svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen, and ib abelsøn in the hut of svend poulsen. Svend poulsen is sad because his beloved julie parsberg rejected him yesterday. Ib abelsøn cuts letters out of the papers of a book and uses them to make a love letter for his own betrothed inger. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679) was real a person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there is no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
