Unknown Jacobite Lady, c. 1740–50, attributed to Cosmo Alexander

An anonymous sitter in a tartan and satin coat with gold braid. The tartan is a sett today known as murray of tullabardine [1]. The white rose is a jacobite symbol. Speculations as to the sitter's identity include [2]: jean cameron of glendessary also known as jenny cameron (c. 1698 – 1772), the famous jacobite lady mary murray (1720–95) daughter of the 1st duke of atholl lady jane murray (1730–47) daughter of the 2nd duke of atholl lady charlotte murray, (1731–1805) daughter of the 2nd duke of atholl amelia murray (1710–66), lord george murray’s wife amelia murray (1732–77) daughter of lord gorge murray. Date: c. 1740–50, with the period 1745–46 most likely (source: [3]).
