a portrait of sue hiromori, a military commander from the muromachi period. Mr. Sue has served as chief retainer of the ouchi clan for generations. This portrait was created in 1484 and is said to have been painted by sesshu. The praise at the top of the image was written by isan shusho, a zen monk who had a close relationship with sesshu. It was created on the third anniversary of hirogo's death, and is passed down at ryuhoji temple in daimori, shunan city. Nationally designated important cultural property. Hirogo sue was born in the first year of kosho (1455). Her father was sue hirofusa and her mother was niho morisato's daughter. His wife is the daughter of kanetaka masuda. In 1467, his father hirofusa was killed in battle in kyoto during the onin war, so he took over as head of the family at the age of 13. While his lord, masahiro ouchi, was in kyoto, he suppressed the rebellion of masahiro's uncle, noriyuki ouchi, while he was away. As a senior vassal of masahiro ouchi, he served as the governor of chikuzen. In 1482, he fought with yoshimi nobuyori, the lord of tsuwano castle in iwami province, at the ouchi clan residence in yamaguchi, and died at the age of 28. A replica is on display in the permanent exhibition room “history of tokuyama”.
