Jean paul friedrich richter (1763-1825) engraving by h. Sintzenich after the drawing by h. Pfenniger. Introduced by charlotte von kalb in june 1796 in weimar and especially into herder's circle, jean paul did not win goethe's affection. Goethe classified jean paul's works as belonging to the tragelaphene (deer) genus because of their hybrid nature in form and content. Date: 18th century. Medium: engraving.
