"*n. Jeffares, dictionary of pastellistes before 1800, london, unicorn press, 2006, p. 412, ill. This portrait of a young woman is not identified today. When signing it, jean-baptiste perronneau preceded his name with the initials of his first name. This rather rare signature is found on several of the pastel portraits executed in 1770, and particularly in the middle abbevillois, such as an autograph replica of the portrait of abraham van robais from the louvre (private collection), the portrait of théophile van robais (los angeles, j. Paul getty museum, inv. 2005. 52), or that of mme boucher de richemont (private collection, however, is not sufficient to deduce that the portrait of a young woman wearing a striped gauze fanchon was executed in abbeville, because perronneau). In 1770 signed portraits in other cities, in bordeaux and, at the end of the year, in amsterdam. It belonged to the collection of camille groult (1837-1908) of which the sale in june 1920 of seven pastel portraits of women by perronneau (n°27-33), only gave a glimpse. The manner is characteristic of that of the painter in the 1770s, with underlying pastel work in parallel oblique hatching visible on the face. We thank mrs dominique d'arnoult for her help in writing this notice. The work will be included in his catalog" [1]. Object Type: painting. Genre: portrait. Date: 1770.
