No. 230. » 56. 2 x 38 cm exposure: paris, salon of 1824, n°1660 (“henri iv and the abbess of montmartre”) marie-catherine de beauvilliers is a nun from montmartre abbey who welcomed henri iv when he besieged paris in 1590 during the wars of religion. She then becomes a royal mistress. Eight years later, the king made her mother abbess. Date: circa 1824.
