The second boer war, 1899-1902 a mobile gateway made of barbed wire strung between two wheels probably used as part of the blockhouse policy. The blockhouses were fortified points linked by wire to define the lines held by the british against the guerrillas in the closing stages of the war. Date: 1899 (Pre-1914).
