Candeur, Jean-Jacques Henner, circa 1886

Candeur, Jean-Jacques Henner, circa 1886

This portrait of a woman is a "work of whim" by jean-jacques henner who represented numerous simply dressed female heads. This painting depicts alice, a recurring model for the artist, dressed in a black outfit with a touch of red. The young woman, depicted here as an allegory of candor, has downcast eyes and a dark gaze behind her bangs. The dark background, like her clothes, creates a chiaroscuro with the model's pale skin. Date: circa 1886. Dimensions: height: 41.8 cm (16.4 in); width: 32 cm (12.5 in). Medium: oil on canvas. Collection: Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims.
