The Colombian barquentine ‚Zelia‘ from Riohacha, making her numbers off Norby on the Island of Fano, Denmark, William Howard Yorke, 1888
The experts at christies did not get it totally right when they interpreted the inscription. The zelia is not really shown off nordby in denmark (there are no cliffs in the area) but the skipper, christian nielsen gram (1862-1919) lived in nordby on the island of fanø (perhaps the reason for the danish flag). The zelia was built by westacott of barnstaple in 1862, and according to lloyd's register of 1889 (page 750 at archive. Org), the ship had been condemmed by 1889. Object Type: painting. Date: 1888. Dimensions: height: 50.8 cm (20 in); width: 76.3 cm (30 in). Medium: oil on canvas. William Howard Yorke - The Colombian barquentine ‚Zelia‘
