'the breeze freshens and veers to the southward'; illustration to falconer's 'the shipwreck' (1811 ed. , p. 51) the fifth of a series of ten drawings, of which the nmm collection holds nine (paf5913–paf5921). The printed description of the plate based on it, probably written by pocock, reads: 'the steering sails, &c. Are taken in. The yards braced to the wind. Tacks on board, and top-gallant-sails set: the ship heeling to the press of sail. The water-spout having passed her, is seen to leeward dispersing. Retimo [rhethimon] on the left and malacha's foreland ahead'. Signed by the artist and dated, lower left.
