Imaginary portrait of king ordoño ii of león (c. 871-924). He was the son of king alfonso iii of asturias and queen jimena of asturias. He subjected the territories of the leonese kingdom to his authority and successfully fought against the muslims, who still dominated most of the iberian peninsula. His reign marked the tacit and quiet transition from the kingdom of asturias to the kingdom of león, with the royal seat already definitively established in the city of león, in whose cathedral he was buried.
