Palace of algerian attractions at the 1900 paris world fair. In this cluster of buildings the visitor was to discover several types of algerian dwellings. It housed a diorama (large painted landscape animated by light and sound effects), a stereorama, and a few restaurants and cafes. There was also a "street of alger" in the center of the building, which was supposed to give the visitor an idea of what the streets of the city looked like at the time. The french army had captured algiers in 1830 but the conquest of the country was slow. Date: 1900. Dimensions: 19.7 x 27 cm. Medium: photographic print. Collection: Brown University Library.
