iconographic description:
an allegorical figure of time is activated. Dressed in simple short black pants and shirtless, time places small doll-like figures in a bag handed to him by a seated man. Behind them, a porter loads a full bag on his back. The scythe of time is placed on the ground. Actor, playwright and designer, henry monnier helped illustrate la comédie humaine. His engravings of administrative morals, and especially his play scenes from bureaucratic life, clearly inspired balzac for his novel la femme supérieure, renamed les employés.
