The work represents the saracens being defeated, and was part of the painting titled santa clara stops the saracens at the doors of the convent of san damiano, which was painted by juan de valdés leal between 1652 and 1653 destined for the convent of santa clara de carmona. However, in 1910 jorge bonsor bought the work for 5,000 pesetas and divided the original painting into two fragments so that they could adapt to a square format, and hence there are currently the paintings of the defeat of the saracens and the procession of santa clara with the sacred form, which is also preserved in the upper chapter house of the town hall of seville, although another small fragment of the original work of juan de valdés leal survives in the juan march collection in palma de mallorca.
