Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1944-03-11) letter no. 234 (1944-03-18) next letter (1944-03-25) envelope: front back text blankenburg, march 18, 1944. My beloved mum! your dear registered letter came today. It is the first one to the new address. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Especially for the 50 rm and the stamps. But, my mum, you're already paying for the latter yourself, 200 grams! as i see, you have received all my mail. I was worried that it might have been lost in a bombing raid. This afternoon i got a shock when i heard from my comrades that vienna had been attacked. I couldn't believe it. At 5 p. M. I heard the report and it was true. I immediately telegraphed you with a reply. I'm excited to see when it will arrive. I just want to hope from the bottom of my heart that you are healthy and well and that everything is ok with us. Date: 18 March 1944.
