Allegory of the second empire (whose democratic caesarism is represented by the plebiscite urn and the inscription vox populi), surrounded (from right to left) by the symbols of the arts, agriculture, the army, industry and commerce. The legitimacy of the regime is based on a mixture of divine right and democracy ("by the grace of god and the national will"). Date: 1865.
