My beloved mother! yesterday your lovely letter dated september 27th and october 8th arrived. As always, i was very happy. But i see that you are still worrying far too much. As i wrote to you, we now have a solid position again and it is to remain so for the winter. So the hardest times are behind me. We are by a river and have a very good position. The russians are very weak here; they hardly shoot at all. Date: 12 October 1943.
