This image is a copy of the photograph of the original painting, and was taken by albert percy godber. The negative shows the full inscription from the book. The painting shows a group of maori warriors preparing for battle, one man sounding a warning through a conch shell (putatara), others wielding weapons, with other men standing on lookouts above the palisades. Date: 1900s.
