Plate 11: the arch of the portuguese: rear face; two-tiered structure with a portal surmounted with the coat-of arms of portugal and framed by corinthian columns flanked by narrow wings; the large painting on upper central tympanum depicts the victorious ferdinand mounted on horseback followed by victory; before him the personification of antwerp kneels in welcome; along balustrade are armed children riding dolphins, flanked by the figures of hope and public security ('securitas publica'); above two winged female personifications bear the coat-of-arms of portugal and support an escutcheon at centre; the royal portraits in the lower niches flanking archway represent the portuguese kings alphonso i and john i; after ludovicus nonnius; unsigned; illustration for gaspar gevaerts' "pompa introitus" (antwerp, 1641)
