The portrait shows paulina giebułtowska née sikorska (1811 - 1881), mother-in-law of jan matejko, widow of antoni giebułtowski, a court secretary in kraków. This is the second portrait of paulina giebułtowska painted by the artist. The woman is dressed in a black dress with a shawl draped over her shoulders and head, shown in a bust with visible hands, turned slightly to the right.
