Brandon received a medal at the paris salon of 1867, the year this work was shown as "le sermon du daian cardozo; synagogue d'amsterdam, le 22 juillet, 1866. " it is a dramatically lighted interior view of one of europe's most famous and picturesque synagogues (consecrated 1675). The sermon is being delivered by the distinguished talmudist david de jahacob lopez cardozo (1808-1890), who was appointed "ab bet din" of the portuguese synagogue in 1839.
