The arabat spit between sivash and the sea of azov is a long narrow strip of land with this 17th sentury turkish fort dominating the landscape. From the subscription edition of bossoli's "beautiful scenery and chief places of interest throughout the crimea", a work with considerable ethnographic and geographic interest, especially in their depictions of tartar life. Carlo bossoli visited the crimea several times between 1828 and 1843, most extensively from 1840 to 1842.
