Gaston laplace designed the town of vermandovillers (somme). The latter was hit hard by the fighting during the first world war. Through this work, gaston laplace shows the different scars that the battles have left. In this drawing, only ruins and dead trees remain. At the top right, it is possible to see a soldier paying his respects at a grave. Indeed, the fighting around the town of vermandovillers was very deadly on both sides (see the wikipedia page for the town of vermandovillers). Date: 1915. Dimensions: 16 x 21 cm.
