Drawing of monumental brass in the church of st margaret of antioch, felbrigg, norfolk, of thomas windham (d. 1599) of felbrigg hall. Like his two brothers sir roger windham and francis windham (d. 1592), judge of common pleas (whose monument exists in w:st peter mancroft in norwich), he died without issue. His heir was sir john wyndham (1558-1645) of w:orchard wyndham in the parish of watchet in somerset, the son of his first cousin sir john wyndham (d. 1572) of orchard wyndham, by his wife florence wadham (1538–1597), a co-heiress of her brother nicholas wadham (1531/2–1609), of merryfield, ilton, in somerset and of edge, branscombe, in devon, who with his wife dorothy petre (1534/5–1618), eldest daughter of sir william petre, principal secretary to king henry viii, founded wadham college, oxford. Felbrigg was the seat of the senior line of the wyndham family which originated at the manor of wymondham in norfolk (the spelling of the family name was "modernised" to "windham" by the family seated at felbrigg, whilst the orchard wyndham line retained the ancient spelling of "wyndham"). In gratitude for his inheritance sir john wyndham (1558-1645) placed this monumental brass[1] to thomas windham (d. 1599) of felbrigg, which in style is similar to various wyndham brasses in watchet church in somerset, also placed by him. Inscribed (transcribed in farrer, edmund, church heraldry of norfolk, vol. 2, norwich, 1889, p. 427[1]):
