Imaginary portrait of king alfonso ix of león (1171-1230). He was the son of king ferdinand ii of león and queen urraca of portugal. Throughout his reign he had numerous conflicts and tensions with his cousin alfonso viii of castile. Due to these, he was absent in the battle of navas de tolosa, fought in 1212, despite which he carried out a great reconquest activity, recovering for christianity the cities of cáceres, mérida and badajoz, and in general the entire western half of the current autonomous community of extremadura.
