This page is taken from an album dedicated to the songs of béranger. Béranger (1780-1857) was a prolific and extremely popular french singer to whom balzac refers in several of his novels. "baroness de fontaine, to whom she had sent it for three months, obtained with great difficulty a line from rossini, six bars from meyerbeer, the four verses that victor hugo puts on all albums, a verse from lamartine, a word from béranger, calypso could not console herself for the departure of ulysses written by george sand, the famous verses on the umbrella by scribe, a sentence by charles nodier, a horizon line by jules dupré, the signature of david d'angers, three notes from hector berlioz collected, during a stay in paris, a song by lacenaire, a highly sought-after autograph, two lines by fieschi, and an excessively short letter from napoleon, all three of which were pasted on the vellum of the album, monsieur gravier, during a trip, had mesdemoiselles mars, georges, taglioni and grisi, the first artists, written on this album. Frédérick-lemaître, monrose, bouffé, rubini, lablache, nourrit and arnal; because he knew a company of old boys fed, according to their expression, in the serail, who obtained these favors for him. This beginning of collecting was all the more precious to dinah as she was the only one within ten leagues around to own an album. For two years, many young people had albums on which they had their friends and acquaintances write more or less grotesque sentences.
