The 'captain of god's army' appears to joshua near jericho. Above them the heavens open from which cherubs fly. On of them is holding a snake biting its own tail as the symbol of eternity. Joshua is depicted wearing a suit of armor holding a sword and a shield in his hands. Part of five paintings that served as wall hangings of the achterzaal (back room) of nieuwegracht 6 in utrecht.
