Skulptur Rhein von Rudolf Schweinitz, Hans Starcke

The "rhine" by rudolf schweinitz, characterized by grapes and a fishing net. In berlin, grosser tiergarten, john-foster-dulles-allee, on the grossfürstenplatz, there are four allegorical sandstone sculptures of the rivers "rhine", "elbe", "oder" and "vistula". Each sculpture consists of a central figure representing the river and two flanking children's figures that characterize the river with their belongings. The sculptures were created between 1864 and 1874. They were created for the new königsbrücke on alexanderplatz. The königsbrücke was later demolished and the sculptures were placed on the grossfürstenplatz in 1880. The grossfürstenplatz was landscaped in 1987. The sculptures were restored in 2014. Geographical coordinates of the grossfürstenplatz: 52. 51705, 13. 35923.
