AAJH-033 Contribution of Arnoldus Lieranus, Rembrandt, 30 March 1661

Translation: to the honourable and wise minister jacobus heijblock. Here shows us rembrandt how the old simeon embraces his divine saviour and messias with joy. And now wishes to die, since his gracious son has appeared, who will protect all men (who always rely on him) against hell and eternal death. Which might teach us, that those who fear god, do not (have to) fear death at all. Since it is the help of the good, when in peril, which is the (greatest) fear of evil men. What, ô heijblock, can be of more comfort to us than that? anno 1665, the 30th of march, a(rnoldus) l(ieranus). Object Type: album contribution, work of art. Date: 30 March 1661. Place of creation: Amsterdam. Collection: Koninklijke Bibliotheek. Album amicorum Jacob Heyblocq KB131H26 - p060 - Arnoldus Lieranus - Poem on the drawing by Rembrandt van Rijn on page 061
