the hôtel-dieu, paris general hospital, on the île de la cité, then located opposite notre-dame, along the seine, was a collection of disparate and dilapidated buildings, dating back in part to the 13th century. The fire which ravaged it for eleven days was one of the most violent of the century, causing a large number of victims who were impossible to count. Saint-aubin shows here the old legate's hall, on the left, and the remains of the chapel, on the right, at the moment when, around 3 a. M. , they managed to force the doors to evacuate the wounded trapped. Mode of acquisition: donation (notarial deed)
